A perfect introduction to the Eternal City! You will start off by driving up the Via Veneto, portrayed in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, and will take a turn around the Fountain of the Naiads in the Piazza della Repubblica. Leaving the bus, you will go on foot to visit the glorious Trevi Fountain, the largest Baroque fountain in the city. You will also find beautiful fountains in the Piazza Navona. This square follows the shape of a former stadium that existed on this site in the first century AD. The piazza features masterpieces such as the famous Fountain of the Four Rivers (1651) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. You then will see the Piazza ColonnaColumn of Marcus Aurelius which has stood there since 193 AD. The bronze statue of Saint Paul atop the column was placed there in 1589, by order of Pope Sixtus V. The tour will take you inside the Pantheon, commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods of ancient Rome and later rebuilt by the Emperor Hadrian. It is one of the best preserved of all Roman buildings and still has the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. You will then re-board your bus and proceed to St. Peter's Square passing the Castel Sant'Angelo, Emperor Hadrian's mausoleum, on the way. Your guide will lead you into St. Peter's Basilica.
